Eagles Come Back From Five Runs Down To Defeat Ravens
Maur Hill took advantage of LeBlond pitcher Josh Weaver's control problems, by scoring five runs in the first inning. Weaver only recorded one out before being replaced by Bryson Merrick, who walked the first batter he faced, then gave up a two-run single to Brendan Wolvington. After that, it was all LeBlond, who scored 15 unanswered runs to take the 15-5 victory. Phil Kafka's hot streak continued, as he went 3-4 with a triple and an RBI. Ethan Lueckenhoff helped the Golden Eagle cause by going 2-3, and collecting two RBI's. Merrick got the win for the Eagles and Mike Minnis took the loss for the Ravens. LeBlond moves to 2-5, while it was the season opener for Maur Hill.

Lafayette Girls and Wathena Boys Win Doniphan West Relays
Lafayette's Lindsey Milliken won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meter races, while teammates Teneia Carriger and Mara Grayson won two events apiece, powereing the Lady Irish to the team title of the 12-team event. On the boys side, Wathena was led by Josh Ebling, who swept both hurdle races and freshman Cody Miller, who won the 400 meter dash. Doniphan County Takes Two From Maranatha
The Doniphan County baseball team, which consists of players from Wathena and Troy, swept a doubleheader from Maranatha on Friday, 6-4 and 12-2. In both games Maranatha jumped out to an early lead, only to see the Doniphan County bats come alive and take control of the game. In game one, Colin Greaser went the distance, while limiting the visiting Eagles to just six hits. At the plate, Auten Huss and Justin Hawkins were both 2-3. Huss also scored two runs and Hawkins had three RBI's. In the late game, freshman Bryce Paden allowed only two Maranatha hits and went 2-3 with two RBI's and two runs scored. Brennan Wehner also had three hits with 2 RBI's and Caylor Luther was 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored

Hornets Sweep Cardinal Relays
Chillicothe's boys ans girls came away with titles at the Cardinal Relays, held at Benton High School on Tuesday. For the Lady Hornets, Sara Stafford won the discus and the shot put with throws of 107' 4" and 39' 8". A pair of Samantha's also figured in Chillicothe's championship. Samantha Figg won the pole vault, while Samantha Fender won the 100 meter dash. Maryville's Jaclyn Guess took home three first place medals, as she won the 100 meter hurdles, high jump and triple jump. Chillicothe's boys team was led by Clint Ratliff, who won the long and triple jumps. For complete scoring details click on the track icons at the bottom right of the homepage.

Lions Club 16th Annual All-Star Basketball Classic
The Lions Clubs of Missouri District 26-F will hold their 16th annual "All-Star Basketball Classic" on Saturday, June 2, 2007. The classic will be played at NWMSU in Maryville. The players are nominated from the 52 high schools throuout the distrct. These nominees are graduating seniors and are selected by their coach. The Lions District Basketball Committe then reviews the nominees and their stats. At this time they select 24 boys and 24 girls. Then there is a meeting with the All-Star coaches and they select the players for their team. The teams, two boys and two girls will consist of 12 players each. In the past 15 years, that the "All-Star Classic" has been held, over 750 young athletes have participated in the games. Over $125,000 has been raised to benefit the Lions Scholarship Program, which annually assists graduating high school seniors from all over northwest Missouri. More than $38,000 has gone to other Lions projects, including the Lake Viking Kids Kamp, a summer camp for legally blind children. The All-Star Classic is an event embraced by all communities throughout the area. Please join us on June 2nd at 5:00 in the Bearcat Arena, Lamkin Activity Center, on the NWMSU campus in Maryville and enjoy some of the finest high school basketball in northwest Missouri. Cardinals are State Champions
Jake Kretzer pitched a complete game two-hit shutout as Benton defeated Sullivan 2-0 to claim St. Joseph's first-ever baseball state championship. Kretzer was also 2-3 at the plate with a homerun. The Cardinals finish the season with a 24-3 record.

Wyatt and Rohde Are State Champions
Kaycee Wyatt and Colby Rohde both won gold medals for Wathena at the Kansas Class 2 State Track Championships. Wyatt won her title in the girl's javelin with a throw of 131'4". She beat her next closest competitor by almost 13 feet. Rohde jumped 44'5" to win the boy's triple jump. He also placed 4th in the long jump and the 4 X 400. Other state placers for thw Wildcats were: Nikki Lewis (3rd 300M hurdles), Cody Miller (4th 400 meter), Boys 4 X 100 Relay- Chris Koelliker, Cody Miller, Matt Koelliker and Colby Rohde (4th)

Prominant Youth Lions Win Big
The Prominant Youth girls basketball team, which is made up of Platte County and North Platte players, along with two of the KCI's finest; Jasmine Kassanavoid of Lawson and Melanie Barnes of Plattsburg rolled past the Griffons of Winnetonka 61-21, at the KC Premiere MAYB Tournament at Shawnee Mission NW High School. The Lions jumped out to a big lead early thanks to Cheyenne Verdoorn's 18 first half points. The Lions led 44-7 at halftime. Verdoorn finished with 22 points to lead all scorers. Melanie Barnes finished with 13 points and eight blocked shots. Other scoring: Jasmine Kassanavoid 12, Rika Brewton 4, Missy Breedlove 4, Karissa Johnson 3 and Lyndsie Sellars 3.

Lafayette's McMurray Mows Down Panthers in Girls Softball Action
Irish pitcher Kelcey McMurray struck out 19 batters as Lafayette downed North Platte 5-1 in the season opener for both teams. Dakota Hellyer led off the game with a single and later scored on a passed ball to give North Platte an early 1-0 lead. Panther pitcher, Bailee Testorff and McMurray had a pitcher's duel going until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Irish sent nine batters to the plate with five of them scoring. Jordan Korell led off the inning by getting the first hit off of Testorff. Baliegh McCrary then drew a walk that was followed by a McMurray sacrifice bunt. Three straight Panther errors led to three runs, giving Lafayette a 3-1 lead. Sarah Cook then hit a two-run triple to make the score 5-1. In the top of the fifth inning, North Platte's one, two and three batters were due up. Hellyer and Addie Buckler were both 2-2 in two plate appearances. McMurray beared down and struck out the best two hitters in the Panther lineup. Testorff popped out to end the inning. In the sixth and seventh innings, McMurray struck out the side to preserve the Irish win. Testorff allowed three hits and had six strike outs, while McMurray gave up four hits while striking out 10.
